USCIS Service Centers

USCIS Service CentersUSCIS Service Centers process those cases that are mailed to them based on the filing instructions on the various forms and e-filed applications.  There are no information services provided by the service centers, nor do they provide in-person services. No appointments are scheduled at these centers, but they may however schedule appointments at local offices or Application Support Centers (ASC).

Service centers send a receipt within 30 days of receiving an application or petition and this receipt will give details of how the case will be processed. If an application is e-filed, the applicant can print their own receipt after successfully filing the application.

California Service Center

Who has to file at the California Service Center?

All forms have filing instructions that make it clear where an applicant needs to mail the application to.

Persons need to mail their applications to the California Service Center if the instructions on the form say so.  All forms need to be mailed unless it is specified in the instructions that the form has an e-filing option.

For applications that can be e-filed, the receipt can be printed by the applicant immediately. For applications mailed to the service center, the receipt will be sent within 30 days of the center receiving the application or petition.

Case Status and Processing Time

It is possible to sign up for e-mail and/or text message updates of your case status. You can also track your case status by following your case on the USCIS website.

For any problem with a case that is pending or completed, in case of change in address or for any other service, applicants need to contact the National Customer Service Center.

For cases filed under the Premium Processing program, information regarding how to contact the service center can be found on the Form I-797 receipt notice.

Nebraska Service Center

Who has to file at the Nebraska Service Center?

All forms have filing instructions that make it clear where an applicant needs to mail the application to.

Persons need to mail their applications to the Nebraska Service Center if the instructions on the form say so.  All forms need to be mailed unless it is specified in the instructions that the form has an e-filing option.

For applications that can be e-filed, the receipt can be printed by the applicant immediately. For applications mailed to the service center, the receipt will be sent within 30 days of the center receiving the application or petition.

Some forms are no longer filed at the Nebraska Service Center – Form I-102, Form I-131, Form I-765, Form I-824, and most Form I-485s. The filing instructions of each form has information on where to file.  To ensure that the edition of the form being filed is current, it is advised to check with the forms section of the USCIS website. Applications filed at the wrong address will be returned with the fees and the whole process will get delayed.

Vermont Service Center

Who has to file at the Vermont Service Center?

All forms have filing instructions that make it clear where an applicant needs to mail the application to.

Persons need to mail their applications to the Vermont Service Center if the instructions on the form say so.  All forms need to be mailed unless it is specified in the instructions that the form has an e-filing option.

The Vermont Service Center is where all cases that are Violence Against Women (VAWA) cases, all Form I-914 and Form I-918 applications need to be filed.  This service center is the only one with jurisdiction for the above mentioned cases.

For applications that can be e-filed, the receipt can be printed by the applicant immediately. For applications mailed to the service center, the receipt will be sent within 30 days of the center receiving the application or petition.

Emergency Processing:

To request an expedited processing of a case, the applicant has to prove that he/she  is or will be subjected to

a severe financial loss (either to a company or an individual), an emergency situation or a humanitarian situation.

Expedited processing of an application can also be requested if:

- it had been submitted by a nonprofit organization for the cultural and social interests of the United States; or

- it is relevant to a Department of Defense or National Interest Situation. (In such cases, the emergency processing request should be made by an official government entity. The request should also indicate how a delay in processing will be adversely affect the US government.)

- there was a processing error by the USCIS.

- it represents some other compelling interest of the US government.

If the applicant is able to prove one of the above situations, then he/she can file the application along with the supporting documents, by express mail, at the following address:
